So we are going steel this time. The question is whether to go with a powder coated finish or just accept bare steel and paint it ourselves every so often. The car wash environment is brutal, constant moisture, soap residue, and occasional contact with stronger cleaning agents when someone spills. I am leaning towards coated because it should hold up better, but I have seen cheap coatings peel off in sheets once moisture gets under an edge, and then it looks worse than bare metal. Does anyone know how these coatings actually perform in wet chemical environments, or is it better to just get a plain steel trash bin and accept the maintenance. Also is there a specific coating type to look for or is powder coat powder coat.
